Направление движения налево (направо), безотносительное к какому-либо пространственному объекту (т. е. только относительно говорящего), передается оборотом to the left (to the right); to turn (to drive, to keep) to the left: go as far the crossroads and then turn to your left дойдите до перекрестка и поверните налево. Способы выражения того или иного положения в пространстве относительно какого-либо внешнего объекта связаны с его одушевленностью или неодушевленностью. Слева, налево от неодушевленного объекта обозначается словосочетаниями: to the left (to the right) of smth: to the left of the shop (of the post office) налево от магазина (почты). Слева, налево от одушевленного объекта передается конструкцией on smb's left (right): the river is on your left река слева от вас; go down the corridor - his room is the second on your left идите прямо по коридору - его комната слева/по левой стороне
